Alexander Update 1 : 7th October 1998

Alexander leaning over.Well it's been almost two months since I've put anything online. Lots of things have changed in that time. Most importantly, I'm a big boy now! I weigh about 8.5 kg, and I'm 70cm long.

Being this much bigger has met a lot of changes in my life. A couple of weeks ago Mummy and Daddy went to plunket and traded in my old carseat for a new forward facing one. I'm not sure if this is a good change or not - although I can face forwards now and see where we're going, I'm now back in the back seat, and Mummy's in the front. Oh well.

Just after I got my new car seat, Grandma B. came down from Wellington to stay. Grandpa B. didn't come down, as he was off in some place called Virginia. She brought down some toys and clothes and stuff for me. Also when she was down here we all went shopping and bought me a high chair. That's kind of a strange experience, but I really like having my own seat.

The reason that I needed a high chair, is that I'm now eating solids pretty regularly. Mummy used to feed me to them once in a while, and then she was giving me a banana every day - I would mouth the end of it and suck some bits off it. Then we moved onto solids every day, and now, twice a day. This eating thing is a bit weird - I'm always having spoons shoved in my mouth, and much of it ends all over my face and hands, and the other day, even in my hair. But I guess I'll get used to it. Oh, my favourite food is the fruit salad tin.

Grandma B. also found some toys which Mummy and Daddy bought for me, and played with me. I didn't quite understand what she was trying to do, but she built up this tower of blocks, and I knocked them all over. Since then, Mummy and Daddy have been playing that game with me, and some other ones with some of my other toys too. I'm getting better at sitting up now, though I still need something behind me to make sure I don't fall over backwards.

I've also got two teeth! My two bottom teeth came through about three weeks ago. They're not very big, but they're pretty sharp. I've bitten Mummy a couple of times and made her yelp, and sometimes Daddy brings his fingers close enough for me to bite them. Mummy and Daddy say this is teething. Whatever it is, it isn't much fun - my mouth has been sore, and we've had to put this stuff on it, which made them feel a bit better, but which tasted funny.

Mummy and Daddy say they're wondering when I'm going to start crawling. personally, I'm in no hurry to start, why should I do all the work when Mummy and Daddy are so good at carrying me around. I have rolled over a few times, which is kinda fun.

Mummy bought me a new favourite toy, a fluffy turtle which makes a honky noise when we squeeze it. It's really good when my teeth hurt, I put its head in my mouth and bite on it. I've also got a favourite book, about a yellow duck, which folds out.

Oh, and when we go food shopping at the supermarket, Mummy and Daddy don't put me in a trolly with a baby seat anymore. They put me in the seat on the ordinary trollies. See, I told you that I was a big boy!
